Mike
Field Manager

I have been in the construction industry as a Traffic Control Flagger for nearly eleven years now. Prior to flagging I was a support manager for one of the world’s largest retail stores for six years, having over fifty employees directly under me at any given time. I have also managed a major auto parts store.

I found my passion in flagging by accident through a temp service and have never wanted to do anything else since. This has been the most challenging and rewarding job I’ve ever had. The people I’ve had the opportunity to work with are top notch. Where else can you name yourself Super Flagger? Though some of my staff have other names for me I’m sure. Haha.

My career has spanned two companies where I have become a master of my trade. My past leadership experience and my dedication to the safety of the public, the contractors and especially my crews put me on a course to be Field Manager at HQTC.  In this position I am responsible for overseeing most every aspect of daily operations in the field and am the first contact when a problem arises. Anything from training to how a job should be set up, from personnel issues to making sure our people are safe. I wear many hats and still manage to run jobs at the same time.

I am fortunate to have the support of the best management team in the business (Some of whom were my own mentors) and we have developed a flagging crew that we can be proud of.

Chris
Project Manager

I started my career in traffic control three years ago and I have been fortunate to work with and learn from some of the best flaggers in the industry.

I have been part of some big projects, providing traffic control for contractors who work tirelessly day and night. From paving Hwy 99 to my personal favorite job, installing a water main in Beaverton so they could supply their own water separate from Portland.

Early on, my employer said they saw leadership skills in me. To my knowledge I am the only flagger to attain the title Project Manager who did not gain experience from another company prior to working at HQTC. You could say I am the only home-grown manager here.

As a Project Manager I am responsible for coordinating with a contractor and my flaggers to make sure a project is run in a safe and legal manner while allowing for the work to be done in as timely a manner as possible.

In my off time I enjoy spending quality time with my family and loving the outdoors as well as catching my sons football games.

Diane
Project Manager

I started flagging in 1994 (I was a single mom of 2) in John Day OR. for a paving contractor R.L. Coats out of Bend OR. After a rocky start I got my first paycheck and decided this was the career for me.

I worked for paving contractors until 1999 when somebody told me to apply for a flagging company, something I had never heard of. It began with ABC Flagging, joining the laborers union, and becoming a TCS for the next 9 years. I have since worked with almost every road work contractor in Oregon and SW Washington.

During my traffic control career, I’ve been trained and mentored by many contractors and awesome coworkers. I have trained and mentored many flaggers and pilot car drivers, and I am so proud of them all.

I am so lucky to have ended up here at HQTC. They are the best company I have ever worked for. I love them and hope to remain here until the end of my career.

Wayne
Project Manager

I have been in traffic control for nine plus years now. In that time, I’ve taken part in some exciting projects, including running five miles of fiber in a single day and several large paving jobs. I have worked for several flagging companies where I’ve been in leadership positions. Throughout my career I’ve put the safety and education of my crew first. I believe in helping each flagger I work with to become the best flagger they can be while keeping everyone on the road safe.

Sam
Project Manager

I am originally from Long Beach California, though I have been in Oregon for Seven years now. I have spent most of my five-year flagging career working in Oregon, however I did spend some time flagging in Utah as well.

This job has helped me to learn not only about traffic control but a lot about myself in the process. This job is tough mentally as well as physically. I have learned to be strong and commanding but also patient and kind. We really do meet all types of people out on the road and I know I am prepared to deal with whatever happens.

Over the years I have been fortunate enough to work with and learn from some of the best flaggers in the business. During the cleanup of the fires in Oregon (2020) I worked with some incredible people. We worked through a tough project with extreme heat and cold. With determination we completed that project having everyone safe which is always the end goal.

In my role as a project manager for HQ I have had the opportunity to help train new flaggers and see them develop the skills necessary to safely direct traffic through construction zones. We are a company that takes pride in our reputation and respects what each person has to contribute.

This has been a job that I really love. It is challenging and rewarding. I literally get paid to tell people where to go.
